District Description

The Lake Merritt Station Area Plan provides a framework for future development within the Plan Area which includes key features such as the Lake Merritt BART Station, Oakland Chinatown, Laney College, the Oakland Public Library, and the Oakland Museum of California, and borders Lake Merritt. The Station Area, easily accessible to the greater Downtown and beyond, is envisioned as a well-connected, economically diverse, and vibrant neighborhood and regional destination. Development opportunities abound from the large development site at the Lake Merritt Bart Station parking lot to smaller infill sites throughout the Station Area. An environmental impact report was certified for the Station Area, enabling the streamlining of entitlements for future projects consistent with the development program analyzed in the Plan.
